Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software from ANSYS provides detailed flow predictions for equipment design, troubleshooting, and scale up. Using FLUENT software helps to understand and optimize the fluid mechanics that drive mixing, separation, heat transfer, chemical reactions and related operations in your process. The integration of the FLUENT CFD package with Aspentech’s process simulator Aspen Plus enables the use of CFD models as a blocks in an Aspen Plus flowsheet. APECS (Advanced Process Engineering Co-Simulation) has also been demonstrated with other CO-compliant process simulators including Aspen HYSYS and gPROMS.
Maxwell OSAWE represented ANSYS-Fluent in CO-LaN till November 17, 2006. Dr Jens MADSEN was then nominated representative in CO-LaN till February 2008. Dr Tony GARRATT has been designated ANSYS representative in CO-LaN on September 26, 2018.

Work related to APECS, together with U.S. DOE/National Energy Technology Laboratory, was presented at the CAPE-OPEN Conference held within the AIChE 2006 Annual Meeting, November 2006, San Francisco, California.
Development of a Unit Operation for Chemkin to enable Equivalent Reactor Networks to be used within Aspen Plus for simulation of coal gasification processes. This work was in collaboration with NETL and was presented at the AIChE 2012 Annual Meeting.
ANSYS-Fluent provided CO-LaN with a Fluent license to test Fluent as a CAPE-OPEN Unit Operation in various PMEs.
