Evaluation of process sustainability with CAPE-OPEN

A paper co-authored by Molecular Simulation Engineering Laboratory, Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Trieste and International Centre for Science and High Technology, ICS-UNIDO describes how the Waste Reduction Algorithm (WAR) has been coded as a CAPE-OPEN Unit Operation.  The developed software component is then applied to the evaluation of a chemical process.The CAPE-OPEN Unit Operation COWAR calculates the Potential Environmental Indexes (PEI) by gathering information from streams and other Unit Operations in the process model. This Unit Operation takes advantage of the CAPE-OPEN concept of information streams.

The CAPE-OPEN Unit Operation Wizard for Unit Operations in Visual Basic 6.0 was used in order to develop COWAR.
