The Methods & Tools Special Interest Group met on July 26, 2017 at 5 pm Central European Time.

Participants: Bill BARRETT (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency), Jasper van BATEN (AmsterCHEM), Michael HLAVINKA (BR&E), Michel PONS (CTO).

Agenda: finalizing memo on COBIA persistence mechanism, reviewing proposal on COBIA parameter specification, COBIA threading model

Outcome: at the end of May, Bill BARRETT proposed the definition of a common interface specification dedicated to reporting. The proposal was initiated in relationship with needs discovered when defining the Flowsheet Monitoring interface specification. The proposal has been worked over by the Methods & Tools SIG and the conference call on July 26 was entirely dedicated to finalizing the memo summarizing the proposal.

The proposal is, by any means, not specific to COBIA. However the COBIA project gives a unique opportunity to define such a common interface, to prototype it and to test it while no change is made to any COM-based software implementing CAPE-OPEN. That explains why it was tackled within a conference call dedicated to COBIA.

Pending some minor editing, the memo is ready to be circulated for review to the entire Methods & Tools SIG membership prior to being released to CO-LaN Management Board for evaluation.
