Abstract: “Although the CPA EoS was initially developed 20 years ago to meet industrial solicitations, namely the need to describe mixtures of hydrocarbons and water, including the formation and dissociation of hydrates, it has only recently received a widespread use in mid-stream and downstream oil and gas processing, or in the petrochemical and chemical industries…”
Comments: the authors stress out that, while CPA is appearing as the right option to replace cubic equatons of state, its use is not widespread since until recently it was only available in such CAPE-OPEN thermodynamic servers as MultiFlash from KBC Advanced Technologies or SPECS software from CERE.
It is our belief that the examples given by the authors show how CAPE-OPEN can be used to make available advances in thermodynamic modeling, either in commercial products or in academic products. Furthermore it could be noted that the authors advocate for two sets of modifications to be made to CPA. By using CAPE-OPEN as a non-proprietary interfacing technology, such modifications could be made readily available to all potential users of CPA.
