Infochem Computer Services Limited (“Infochem”), a leading provider of specialised software and services to the upstream oil and gas industry was acquired by KBC (A Yokogawa Company) in June 2012. KBC being itself a Corporate Associate Member of CO-LaN, the acquisition terminated Infochem status as Corporate Associate Member.

Based in London, established for over 25 years and with over 350 customers in the sector, Infochem was a strong independent supplier of software and IP in the chemistry of oil and gas fluids that enables accurate modelling of reservoir fluids to maximise production from reservoirs, into the well bore and production systems, as well as through related processing facilities.Infochem’s products are used by operators, oilfield service companies and EPC contractors.

Multiflash was one of the fist thermodynamic servers made CAPE-OPEN compliant. Richard SZCZEPANSKI was one of the main contributors to the Thermo 1.1 interface specification with one of the final meetings on that major piece of work held at Infochem in London. Richard SZCZEPANSKI received the CAPE-OPEN 2002 Award. This pertained to work conducted with Aspentech and Hyprotech during the Global CAPE-OPEN project.

Richard SZCZEPANSKI was the representative of Infochem in CO-LaN all along Infochem’s membership. Richard remains very active in CO-LaN activities having retained a position of senior advisor within KBC.

CAPE-OPEN related work:

Infochem was contracted by CO-LaN to develop the first prototype of a CAPE-OPEN 1.1 Property Package, in order to validate the design proposed. Such a prototype can be seen as working in COFE for example.

Richard SZCZEPANSKI co-authored a paper with Jasper van BATEN directly related to CAPE-OPEN on a thermodynamic equilibrium reactor model. Richard presented also very interesting benchmarking work on CAPE-OPEN interfaces at the 6th CAPE-OPEN European Conference held in April 2009 in Freising, Germany.

Interoperability testing:

Infochem is making available to CO-LaN a license of Multiflash so that interoperability tests may be conducted such as within ChemCad. Such an arrangement was reported for 2008 or 2013 but has been a permanent relationship.
