Versioning

Highlights

Together with the Methods & Tools Special Interest Group, the Interoperability Special Interest Group is developing a versioning scheme for the CAPE-OPEN standard. The scheme is meant to encompass the documentation, i.e. the textual interface definition, as well as how it is delivered to software developers (Type Libraries, Primary Interop Assemblies).

The Interoperability SIG states that versioning manages change to the CAPE-OPEN standard. In listing the various purposes of versioning, in an attempt to prioritize them, it is felt necessary to consider several stakeholders including end-users of process simulation software, software vendors with existing implementations, software vendors willing to implement CAPE-OPEN for the first time or to implement new functionalities offered by CAPE-OPEN, and finally CO-LaN in its roles of maintenance and development of the CAPE-OPEN standard.

These different stakeholders have different expectations with respect to versioning, eventually somewhat conflicting ones. These expectations, as defined by the Interoperability SIG, are shared with the Methods & Tools SIG to align them between the two SIGs.

Next conference call is scheduled for September 27, 2018.
