RSI has developed the INDISS (INDustrial and Integrated Simulation Software) Process Modeling Environment to provide the necessary software tools for Engineering Study Simulator, Operator Training Simulator. The integration of CAPE-OPEN compliant code into INDISS is performed by using COM components following two directions of the standard: Thermo and Units. Furthermore, the CAPE-OPEN realizations in INDISS were performed both as PMEs as well as PMCs. RSI is an associate member as provider of CAPE software. RSI is involved in the Special Interest Group Unit: develop, establish and maintain CAPE-OPEN interfaces for Unit Operations to be used in dynamic simulators.
Realizations:
- Integration of external stand-alone CAPE-OPEN 1.0 compliant thermodynamic property packages (Multiflash from Infochem and Aspen+ property package from Aspentech).
- Integration of CAPE-OPEN 1.0 compliant unit operations in INDISS process simulation flowsheet: instantiation, configuration, connection (Aspentech MixerSpliter in steady state).
- Wrapping of existing legacy thermodynamic code (Fortran or C++) in CAPE-OPEN 1.0 compliant property packages components.
- Wrapping of existing code of INDISS Unit Operations in CAPE-OPEN 1.0 compliant Unit Operation components (Network Limit, Valve, Manifold, 2Phase Separator).
Technical details:
Middleware: DCOM
Languages:
- C++ and Fortran wrapping for the development of high performance COM components
- Visual Basic for Unit Tests

Academic actions:
- Development of a version of the INDISS software that provides support for CAPE-OPEN Dynamic Unit Operations (actually Draft version of Special Interest Group Unit) for standard evaluation purposes.
- In the process of setting up lab sessions in collaboration with French Engineering school ENSIACET on the theme of "integration of a CAPE-OPEN Unit Operation in an existing flowsheet".
- Joint work with INRIA on a training period aimed at evaluation of DCOM middleware based deployment of distributed Process Engineering applications using CAPE-OPEN compliant business code on Cluster architectures.
