Thermo 1.1 plug tester development

Two Requests For Bids on Thermo 1.1 testers were issued in November. The development of the plug tester will be done by Polytechnic University of Catalunya (UPC), who has been selected among three candidates by the CO-LaN Management Board. The development of the socket tester will be subject to a second RFB in January 2003.

CAPE-OPEN Award 2002

The 2002 CAPE-OPEN award will be presented to Michael Halloran (Aspentech), Daniel Piñol (Hyprotech) and Richard Szczepanski (Infochem) during the CO-LaN Annual General Meeting to be held at the beginning of 2003. This award recognizes their fruitful cooperation across organizational boarders, in the development of the Thermo 1.1 specification. The recipient of the 2001 award was Dr. Siegfried Nagel, Bayer.

The National Risk Management Research Laboratory (NRMRL) which is part of US EPA's Office of Research and Development, conducts research into ways to prevent and reduce risks from pollution that threaten human health and the environment. The P2Tools Design & Development Team develops of a CO compliant Metal Finishing Facility Pollution Prevention Tool (CO-MFFP2T), that will be presented at the ESCAPE-13 conference in June 2003. US EPA National Risk Management Research is now an Associate Member of CO-LaN.


Two Requests for Bids issued

CO-LaN published two requests for bids for the development of software testers for the proposed version 1.1 of the Thermo & Phys Props standard. The CO 1.1 Thermo Interface Specification Draft is a proposed refactoring of the approved CAPE-OPEN Thermo interface. This refactoring makes the specification cleaner and easier to use. The testers will be used for experimenting with the specification before its official release. See in the Requests for Bids page.

Since 1980, RSI has developed its strengths in Dynamic Simulation, Advanced Process Control and Optimization, providing services and products for the Oil and Gas Industry, Refineries, Petrochemical and Chemical Plants, Thermal Power Plants, Pulp and Paper Making Industry. RSI is now an Associate Member of CO-LaN.

A series of presentations on CAPE-OPEN took place at Shell in Amsterdam on Oct. 15th., 11:00 to 16:00. The meeting was internal to Shell Chemicals..

VTT has combined VTT Automation and VTT Manufacturing Technology to create a new Research Institute, VTT Industrial Systems. The new Research Institute focus on products, production systems and related services. VTT Industrial Systems is now an Associate Member of CO-LaN.

The conference SIMO 2002 included three presentations on CAPE-OPEN standards, one poster by J.-P. Belaud et al. on the CAPE-OPEN process and technology, one contribution by B. Braunschweig and P. Roux on opportunities and perspectives in process modeling software, and a third one by ProSim SA on their new suite of CAPE-OPEN compliant components.

Powered by the OpenCMS open source content management system (http://www.opencms.org), the new CO-LaN web site is collaboratively edited by its members. Some sections are missing, but the site will continue to grow over the next weeks.

A paper by Jean-Pierre BELAUD, Michel PONS, Peter BANKS, Werner MERK and Kerry IRONS has been accepted at FOCAPO 2003 conference to be held at Coral Springs, Florida on January 12-15, 2003.

CAPE-OPEN abstract accepted for ESCAPE 13

A paper has been accepted by the Scientific Committee of ESCAPE 13 held in Finland. It will be presented as a poster. It will explain what the Reactions Package interface specification released within version 1.0 of the CAPE-OPEN standard is aimed at, what are its current implementation plans and how it is structured.

Two presentations on CAPE-OPEN achievements and perspectives were given at the ESCAPE-12 conference in The Hague, Netherlands, on May 27th 2002. The first paper, "TRIZ AND THE EVOLUTION OF CAPE TOOLS - FROM FLOWTRAN TO CAPE-OPEN AND BEYOND", by Braunschweig and Irons, gave an overview of the trends towards more flexible process modelling software. The second paper, "OPEN SOFTWARE ARCHITECTURE FOR PROCESS SIMULATION: THE CURRENT STATUS OF CAPE-OPEN STANDARD", by Belaud and Pons, presented an up-to-date account of the standard.
