CAPE-OPEN Tutorial on Material Object

Within the 6th CAPE-OPEN European Conference, a tutorial was organized on April 3rd. Main subject is the Material Object.

Participants reconnoitered the Material Object in a CAPE-OPEN context: responsibilities, how-to’s and pitfalls will be on the menu. To attract a wide audience, a minimal simulation environment in VB.Net was set up by the instructors, Bill Barrett from US EPA and Jasper van Baten from AmsterCHEM. From a participant point of view, the goal of this course was to gain a good understanding of what goes on and perhaps even go home with a working example, including source code.

This course was especially suited for those developing a Process Modelling Environment. It was also beneficial for developers of components making use of Material Objects supplied by a PME: they understood the constraints and behavior of the MOs they are faced with. For those unable to attend, CO-LaN makes available here the presentation material used (notes included). The code used for the course is solely available to CO-LaN membership.

Bill Barrett has served as instructor in various CAPE-OPEN tutorials (Heidelberg-2007, Salt Lake City-2007, Cambridge-2008) while also developing a CAPE-OPEN PME as well as a CAPE-OPEN class library at US EPA. Jasper van Baten is well known for COCO, the suite of CAPE-OPEN compliant software available as freeware as well as for various developments done for 3rd parties.
