A number of legacy models for unit operations have been written in FORTRAN. A way to make them available as CAPE-OPEN Unit Operations is to wrap them using a Wizard for
CAPE-OPEN Unit Operations programmed in FORTRAN. Such a Wizard exists since the end of 2006. It has been developed for TOTAL by ProSim SA and donated to the CO-LaN
membership by TOTAL. Originally the Wizard, that develops source code in FORTRAN 90, was compliant only with the Thermodynamic and Physical Properties interface specification
version 1.1. This was fitting with TOTAL specific needs and it has been used for wrapping the TUWAX piece of code (Tulsa University Paraffin Deposition Project) as a CAPE-OPEN
Unit Operation. This was reported at the 4th CAPE-OPEN US Conference in November 2007. TUWAX was used in COFE in conjunction with MultiFlash through 1.1 Thermo interfaces.
During 2008, TOTAL had the need to make another Unit Operation model CAPE-OPEN compliant but using Thermodynamic and Physical Properties interfaces under version 1.0 since
the intended use of this model was in PMEs supporting only this version of the Thermodynamic and Physical Properties interface specification. TOTAL has asked ProSim to
extend the existing Wizard so it may work for both versions of the specification. In the course of this extension support for array parameters was improved.
Now TOTAL donates this new version to the CO-LaN membership: it is downloadable from the CO-LaN website members area under the interoperability support tools within the
Interoperability Support Special Interest Group pages.
CO-LaN welcomes this donation and thanks TOTAL for this initiative.
