Lamar University applied for Associate Membership through its Chemical Engineering Department chaired by Professor Kuyen Li. The CO-LaN Management Board accepted the application on December 21, 2006.

The Chemical Engineering Department at Lamar is very active in process simulation education and is known for making thermophysical properties accessible to working process engineers. The Department is also focusing on process control and real-time optimization using commercial process simulator packages. They foresee the use of CAPE-OPEN standards and C++/COM or .NET technologies to integrate specialty unit operations and properties in support of education and research in those and other areas.
