Project description: EMSO

EMSO, a new environment for modelling, simulation, and optimisation, is a new process modeling tool developed at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul which relies completely on CAPE-OPEN interfaces. The modular architecture of the tool, realized using CORBA component software, gives users more flexibility in using available resources to solve their problems. On top of this modular architecture, a graphical user interface and a newly developed modeling language permit the user to create models and specify simulation runs. In addition, consistency checking for units of measurement, solvability of the model, and initial conditions is performed.

Instead of wrapping an existing package, EMSO uses CAPE-OPEN for its native implementation. This approach has resulted in a series of improvements and proposed extensions for the numerics interfaces within the CAPE-OPEN standard definition.
