Project description: CAPE-OPEN physical properties packages
Within ARKEMA, the Aspen Plus properties package Properties Plus which complies with the CAPE-OPEN interface standards is successfully
used within the gPROMS process modeling environment, e.g. for the modeling of rate-based distillation columns. Such application of the
CAPE-OPEN standards allows the consistent use of thermodynamic models and data across different model-based applications of the process
design and operations lifecycle even across tools stemming from different software vendors, thereby avoiding errors as well as additional
efforts.
Project description: Catalytic reactor unit operation
A catalytic reactor model developed by an academic partner was made CAPE-OPEN compliant by wrapping the original FORTRAN code with a
layer of Visual Basic. Thereby, compatibility with Aspen Plus Release 10.1 was achieved by means of the CAPE-OPEN interoperability
standard. Unfortunately, not all features of the standard could be exploited because tools on the market were not fully implementing
CAPE-OPEN features. Meanwhile, commercial tools have reached the status of fully supporting CAPE-OPEN and an update to the most recent
version of the standard is planned. |
