Project description: the DIPPR properties database
The DIPPR database stores thermophysical properties and parameters for correlations of temperature-dependent property models of
almost 1750 pure components in the public version and over 1900 in the member version. It has been under development since 1980 and is
continuously updated and enhanced. DIPPR is an industrial consortium, operating as part of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers
(AIChE), and consisting mostly of companies in the chemical and petrochemical processing sector such as Dow Chemical, DuPont, and BP.
The DIPPR database is widely used in the chemical processing sector and within the process simulators from the major vendors Aspen
Technology, Hyprotech, and SimSci/Invensys which are also members of the consortium. The database is free to DIPPR members, and can be
leased from the primary distributor in the Chemical Engineering Department at Brigham Young University. There is also a limited, low-cost
academic version available. More information may be obtained at http://dippr.byu.edu
Benefits achieved
Recently, the development of a CAPE-OPEN interface to the DIPPR database was started in order to allow users to employ the database
within virtually any piece of process simulation software. Further, the development on DIPPR's side is simplified because a single
standardized interface is now sufficient instead of several proprietary ones. Plans for the development of an interface to a database
containing environmental health and safety properties are already being made. |
